A Bible Study by Adam Osborne, Jr.

As you start to read this, some men and women might not like what is written, therefore will discontinue reading after only a few scriptures. However, please, keep reading, specifically the section entitles “Those involved can be forgiven.” God has provided a path for the forgiveness of ALL sins. God bless…. Adam.

Life is the gift of God

Psalm 139:14-16 NIV I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well (15) my frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, (16) your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

  • God has a plan for each and every soul. From the beginning of time, God’s plan was for procreation. He “gave” us the ability to procreate. Who are we to destroy what he has so wonderfully made?

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.Psalms 139:13 (Amplified) For YOU did form my inward parts, YOU did knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Murder is against God

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

Genesis 9:5-6 (NIV) And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man. (6) Who ever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God created man.

Life begins at conception

Isaiah 49: 1, 5 NIV Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: BEFORE I was born the Lord called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name. (5) NIV And now the Lord says – he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to Him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord and my god has been my strength.

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Exodus 21:22-25 (22) NIV If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows (23) But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, (24) eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, (25) burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

Those involved can be forgiven

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 3:23-24 For all have sinned, and come sort of the Glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…

When does life begin

  • complete genetic individual upon conception.
  • own blood type and system by 14th day.
  • heart beating 28th day.
  • almost all organs formed by 30th day.
  • backbone, spinal column, and nervous system forming by 21st day.
  • eyes formed by 35th day.
  • brain waves by 43rd day.
  • arms and legs move by 42nd day.
  • 56 days: fetus has own fingerprints, can urinate, make fist, can feel pain, muscles and nervous system do body movements; complete body system formed.
  • 84 days: body sensitive to touch, vocal cords complete; drinks, digests, and excretes portions of amniotic fluid; can be taught conditional responses; sleeps and wakes; primitive egg or sperm cells formed.

TEEN RESPONSE TO PREGNANCY/ABORTION QUESTIONS

As Youth Director at a local church, the teens and I got into the “abortion” and “pregnancy” discussion. Here are some questions and comments from a few of the youth

Some teens feel that it would be easier for them to just get an abortion. That way their mother and father wouldn’t find out. They could just do it and no one would know.

Exodus 20:12 (NIV) Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

  • You must tell your parents. No doubt it would probably be one of the most difficult things you have ever done in your life! But, hiding such an important things as pregnancy is not the answer. You can not honor your father and your mother by LYING to them by not telling them the truth. Yes, not telling this is a direct sin.
  • If you are old enough to have a baby, you are old enough to stand up for your actions. Becoming an adult means learning to make the right choice; and when you haven’t made the right choice, confessing it and learning from your mistakes so that you will not do it again.
  • Facing your parents about this will be hard, but if handled correctly, love will soon replace the anxiety, frustration and nervousness you and your parents will have. However, having an abortion is something that will never go away. Most likely you will regret it for the rest of your life.
  • Talk to a religious person your trust. Talk to your pastor, youth director, sunday school teacher, deacon. They are trained in these areas, they can help. They also can help you when it comes time to tell your parents.

James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man accomplish much.

Remember, God is there for you. He doesn’t just throw your name out the window if you mess up. If you are truly repentant and seeking his help, he will be there:

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Some teen age girls feel that their body isn’t physically prepared for child birth yet. They feel that they are so young, they might die if they try to deliver a baby.

  • If you are old enough to get pregnant, you are old enough to go through with the delivery. In very rare cases having a baby at an extremely young age can be dangerous, however, this is very rare.
  • Get a doctor involved immediately. This is another reason why your parents must get involved. They know where to go, who to go to, how, when, etc. A doctor can give you a physical exam which will point out and treat any problems you might have and stop others from occurring. A doctor, in most all cases, will significantly reduce the problems associated with pregnancy.

Some teen age girls feel that a baby would cause trouble between them and their boyfriend. It would drive the boyfriend away.

  • If this is true, you need to know it now. Does this man truly love you or is he just using you? Most likely this will be the first test of your relationship, you will learn a lot about him from this. If this drives him away, then it wasn’t love anyway. Find it out now, not later.

Some teens worry that they are not financially ready for a child yet. It would doom them into a life of poverty.
There are many solutions for this:

  • Sometimes the parents of the teens are willing to help out, let teens and baby live with them, etc.
  • Giving the child up for adoption to a needy couple who are unable to have a child of their own. In most cases the receiving couple will pay for all of the medical expenses, etc. These couples really want the baby and will truly love the child. They are mature and financially prepared for the child.
  • There are special schools now for pregnant teens. This allows you to go to school right up until the day the child is born. Also, there is low or no cost child care available for teen mothers so they can finish their education so that they can become a productive, educated member of society.

Closing Comments:
Before you do anything that will make you face an issue such as pregnancy or abortion, NOW is the time to think about what this means. Having sex before marriage is a sin. It is a choice that you make, no one else! It is the same as looking up at God and saying, “Yes, I know it’s wrong, but I’m going to do it anyway!”

Sex before marriage is a serious temptation to some, while to others it is not such a big deal. There is help for those who are having difficulty in facing this issue:

Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

  • Get involved in the church. Date Christians only. Get involved with an active youth or singles group. See how God can help your mindset.
  • Focus your attention to the bible, God’s written word. You will find strength and renewed energy from this fountain of knowledge. It is there as the answer to every sin or temptation. Your “thought shall be established”. God will take away the temptation, he will direct your mind and energy somewhere else!

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

  • Pray, pray pray. You want the energy to resist the temptation, God can give it to you. Ask other Christians to pray for you, you don’t have to tell them why! Just tell them you have a problem and you want them to pray about it with you.

There is still hope!!! God is still on the throne!!!
Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

  • -What ever has happened in the past, it is not too late for you now. God can help you through each day for the rest of your life.
  • -If you have had an abortion or have committed other sins, you can be forgiven and God can give you strength and a renewed life! Many biblical “hero’s” sinned, sinned badly. But, once they truly repented of their sins and returned to God and his teachings, God used them in great ways.
