{"id":672,"date":"2011-11-26T14:05:12","date_gmt":"2011-11-26T19:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adamosborne.net\/?p=672"},"modified":"2025-05-10T12:37:51","modified_gmt":"2025-05-10T17:37:51","slug":"kenosis-jesus-emptied-himself-for-us-24-nov-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adamosborne.net\/index.php\/2011\/11\/kenosis-jesus-emptied-himself-for-us-24-nov-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenosis &#8211; Jesus Emptied Himself for Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bible study by <a href=\"mailto:adam@adamosborne.net\">Adam Osborne, JR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><center><strong>Kenosis<\/strong><\/center><strong>Kenosis<\/strong> (from the Greek word for emptiness) is the &#8216;self-emptying&#8217; of one&#8217;s own will and becoming entirely receptive to God&#8217;s divine will.<\/p>\n<p>The word is used in <strong>Philippians 2:7<\/strong> &#8220;Jesus made himself nothing &#8230;&#8221; (NIV) or &#8220;&#8230;he emptied himself&#8230;&#8221; (NRSV), using the verb form &#8220;to empty&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Philippians 2:5-11<\/strong> Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil.2:7<\/strong> But made himself of no <strong>reputation<\/strong>, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:<br \/>\n<strong>reputation<\/strong> = From Strongs G2756; to make empty, that is, (figuratively) to abase, neutralize, falsify: &#8211; make (of none effect, of no reputation, void), be in vain.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Last edited on Saturday, 26 November 2011<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A bible study by Adam Osborne, JR.
