1. Jesus as a Prophet<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A prophet speaks God\u2019s word to the people, calling them to repentance and revealing God\u2019s will. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Old Testament Prophecy \u2013 Moses predicted that God would raise up a prophet like himself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deuteronomy 18:15 <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 \u201cThe Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Jesus Fulfills This Role \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He taught with divine authority – Matthew 7:28-29<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He performed miracles to confirm His message – John 6:14<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, \u201cThis is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!<\/em>\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He foretold future events, including His death and resurrection – Mark 8:31<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 People recognized Him as \u201ca great prophet\u201d – <\/p>\n\n\n\n —Luke 7:16<\/strong> Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, \u201cA great prophet has arisen among us!\u201d and \u201cGod has visited his people!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n —John 4:19<\/span><\/strong> The woman said to him, \u201cSir, I perceive that you are a prophet.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus is the ultimate prophet because He is not just a messenger of God\u2019s word\u2014He is the Word made flesh – John 1:1<\/span><\/strong> In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 2. Jesus as a Priest<\/p>\n\n\n\n A priest mediates between God and people, offering sacrifices for sin and interceding on behalf of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Old Testament Priesthood \u2013 The Levitical priests offered sacrifices to atone for sin, but their sacrifices were temporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Jesus Fulfills This Role \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He offered Himself as the perfect and final sacrifice – Hebrews 9:11-14<\/span><\/strong> But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He serves as our High Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek – <\/p>\n\n\n\n Psalm 110:4<\/span><\/strong> The Lord has sworn\u00a0and will not change his mind,\u00a0\u201cYou are a priest forever\u00a0after the order of Melchizedek.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hebrews 7:17 <\/span>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For it is witnessed of him,\u00a0\u201cYou are a priest forever,\u00a0after the order of Melchizedek.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He continually intercedes for believers before the Father – Hebrews 7:25<\/span><\/strong> Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus is the perfect High Priest because He offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice and continues to intercede for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Jesus as a King<\/p>\n\n\n\n A king rules with authority, ensuring justice and leading His people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Old Testament Promise of a King \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0God promised David that his descendant would reign forever – 2 Samuel 7:12-13<\/span><\/strong> When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0The Messiah was prophesied to be a King who rules with righteousness – Isaiah 9:6-7<\/span><\/strong> For to us a child is born,\u00a0to us a son is given;\u00a0and the government shall be upon his shoulder,\u00a0and his name shall be called\u00a0Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,\u00a0Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.\u00a07\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong> Of the increase of his government and of peace\u00a0there will be no end,\u00a0on the throne of David and over his kingdom,\u00a0to establish it and to uphold it\u00a0with justice and with righteousness\u00a0from this time forth and forevermore.\u00a0The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Jesus Fulfills This Role \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He is the King of Kings – Revelation 19:16<\/span><\/strong> On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He inaugurated His Kingdom with His first coming – Luke 17:20-21<\/span><\/strong> Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, \u201cThe kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, 21\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>nor will they say, \u2018Look, here it is!\u2019 or \u2018There!\u2019 for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\u00a0He will return to establish His eternal reign – Revelation 11:15 <\/strong>Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, \u201cThe kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus is the ultimate King because He reigns not just over Israel but over all creation, and His Kingdom will never end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Summary<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 As Prophet, Jesus reveals God\u2019s truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 As Priest, He sacrifices Himself and intercedes for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 As King, He reigns over all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No one else in history has ever perfectly fulfilled all three roles.
