line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24220b\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24220b&quot; title=&quot;See footnote b&quot;&gt;b&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=mark+1&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24220b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup>for the remission of sins. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24221\" class=\"text Mark-1-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24222\" class=\"text Mark-1-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Now John was clothed with camel&#8217;s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24223\" class=\"text Mark-1-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And he preached, saying, There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24224\" class=\"text Mark-1-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-9\">John Baptizes Jesus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>It came to pass in those days <i>that<\/i> Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24226\" class=\"text Mark-1-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24227\" class=\"text Mark-1-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Then a voice came from heaven, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-12\">Satan Tempts Jesus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately the Spirit <sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; and the angels ministered to Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-14\">Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel <sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24230f\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24230f&quot; title=&quot;See footnote f&quot;&gt;f&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=mark+1&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24230f\">f<\/a>]<\/sup>of the kingdom of God, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24231\" class=\"text Mark-1-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>and saying, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The time is fulfilled, and<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">the kingdom of God<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-16\">Four Fishermen Called as Disciples<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24233\" class=\"text Mark-1-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Follow Me, and I will make you become <\/span><span class=\"woj\">fishers of men.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24234\" class=\"text Mark-1-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>They immediately left their nets and followed Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24235\" class=\"text Mark-1-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the <i>son<\/i> of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also <i>were<\/i> in the boat mending their nets. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24236\" class=\"text Mark-1-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-21\">Jesus Casts Out an Unclean Spirit<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24238\" class=\"text Mark-1-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24239\" class=\"text Mark-1-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24240\" class=\"text Mark-1-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Let <i>us<\/i> alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are the Holy One of God!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24241\" class=\"text Mark-1-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus rebuked him, saying, <span class=\"woj\">Be quiet, and come out of him! <\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24242\" class=\"text Mark-1-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24243\" class=\"text Mark-1-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? What new doctrine <i>is<\/i> this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24244\" class=\"text Mark-1-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-29\">Peter&#8217;s Mother-in-Law Healed<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24246\" class=\"text Mark-1-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>But Simon&#8217;s wife&#8217;s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24247\" class=\"text Mark-1-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-32\">Many Healed After Sabbath Sunset<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24249\" class=\"text Mark-1-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>And the whole city was gathered together at the door. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24250\" class=\"text Mark-1-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-35\">Preaching in Galilee<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a <sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24251k\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24251k&quot; title=&quot;See footnote k&quot;&gt;k&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote k\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=mark+1&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24251k\">k<\/a>]<\/sup>solitary place; and there He prayed. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24252\" class=\"text Mark-1-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>And Simon and those <i>who were<\/i> with Him searched for Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24253\" class=\"text Mark-1-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>When they found Him, they said to Him, Everyone is looking for You.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24254\" class=\"text Mark-1-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>But He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">for this purpose I have come forth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24255\" class=\"text Mark-1-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-1-40\">Jesus Cleanses a Leper<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-1-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup>Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If You are willing, You can make me clean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24257\" class=\"text Mark-1-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out <i>His<\/i> hand and touched him, and said to him, <span class=\"woj\">I am willing; be cleansed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24258\" class=\"text Mark-1-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup>As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24259\" class=\"text Mark-1-43\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup>And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24260\" class=\"text Mark-1-44\"><sup class=\"versenum\">44\u00a0<\/sup>and said to him, <span class=\"woj\">See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24261\" class=\"text Mark-1-45\"><sup class=\"versenum\">45\u00a0<\/sup>However, he went out and began to proclaim <i>it<\/i> freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"footnotes\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chaptwo\"><\/a>Chapter Two<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralytic<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-1\"><span class=\"text Mark-2-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">2\u00a0<\/span>And again He entered Capernaum after <i>some<\/i> days, and it was heard that He was in the house. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24263\" class=\"text Mark-2-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive <i>them,<\/i> not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24264\" class=\"text Mark-2-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four <i>men.<\/i> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24265\" class=\"text Mark-2-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24266\" class=\"text Mark-2-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, <span class=\"woj\">Son, your sins are forgiven you.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24267\" class=\"text Mark-2-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24268\" class=\"text Mark-2-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7 <\/sup>Why does this <i>Man<\/i> speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24269\" class=\"text Mark-2-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24270\" class=\"text Mark-2-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, <i>Your<\/i> sins are forgiven you, or to say, Arise, take up your bed and walk?<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24271\" class=\"text Mark-2-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But that you may know that the Son of Man has<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">power on earth to forgive sins <\/span>He said to the paralytic, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24272\" class=\"text Mark-2-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24273\" class=\"text Mark-2-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, We never saw <i>anything<\/i> like this!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-2-13\">Matthew the Tax Collector<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-2-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24275\" class=\"text Mark-2-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>As He passed by, He saw Levi the <i>son<\/i> of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Follow Me.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span> So he arose and followed Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24276\" class=\"text Mark-2-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Now it happened, as He was dining in <i>Levi&#8217;s<\/i> house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24277\" class=\"text Mark-2-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, How <i>is it<\/i> that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24278\" class=\"text Mark-2-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>When Jesus heard <i>it,<\/i> He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call <i>the <\/i>righteous, but sinners,<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">to repentance.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-2-18\">Jesus Is Questioned About Fasting<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-2-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24280\" class=\"text Mark-2-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Can the<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24281\" class=\"text Mark-2-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But the days will come when the bridegroom will be<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24282\" class=\"text Mark-2-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24283\" class=\"text Mark-2-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24297\" class=\"text Mark-3-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>and Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24298\" class=\"text Mark-3-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>So He told His disciples that a small boat should be kept ready for Him because of the multitude, lest they should crush Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24299\" class=\"text Mark-3-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24300\" class=\"text Mark-3-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, You are the Son of God. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24301\" class=\"text Mark-3-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>But He sternly warned them that they should not make Him known.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-3-13\">The Twelve Apostles<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-3-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And He went up on the mountain and called to <i>Him<\/i> those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24303\" class=\"text Mark-3-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24304\" class=\"text Mark-3-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24305\" class=\"text Mark-3-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter; <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24306\" class=\"text Mark-3-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>James the <i>son<\/i> of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder; <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24307\" class=\"text Mark-3-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the <i>son<\/i> of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananite; <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24308\" class=\"text Mark-3-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. And they went into a house.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-3-20\">A House Divided Cannot Stand<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-3-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Then the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24310\" class=\"text Mark-3-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>But when His own people heard <i>about this, <\/i>they went out to lay hold of Him, for they said, He is out of His mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24311\" class=\"text Mark-3-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, He has Beelzebub, and, By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24312\" class=\"text Mark-3-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>So He called them to <i>Himself<\/i> and said to them in parables: <span class=\"woj\">How can Satan cast out Satan?<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24313\" class=\"text Mark-3-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24314\" class=\"text Mark-3-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24315\" class=\"text Mark-3-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And if Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24316\" class=\"text Mark-3-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">No one can enter a strong man&#8217;s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-3-28\">The Unpardonable Sin<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-3-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter;<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24318\" class=\"text Mark-3-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24319\" class=\"text Mark-3-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>because they said, He has an unclean spirit.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-3-31\">Jesus&#8217; Mother and Brothers Send for Him<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-3-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>Then His brothers and His mother came, and standing outside they sent to Him, calling Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24321\" class=\"text Mark-3-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>And a multitude was sitting around Him; and they said to Him, Look, Your mother and Your brothers are outside seeking You.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24322\" class=\"text Mark-3-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>But He answered them, saying, <span class=\"woj\">Who is My mother, or My brothers?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24323\" class=\"text Mark-3-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, <span class=\"woj\">Here are My mother and My brothers!<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24324\" class=\"text Mark-3-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For whoever does the<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chapfour\"><\/a>Chapter Four<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Parable of the Sower<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-1\"><span class=\"text Mark-4-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">4\u00a0<\/span>And again He began to teach by the sea. Or with what parable shall we picture it?<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24355\" class=\"text Mark-4-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\"><i>It is<\/i> like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth;<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24356\" class=\"text Mark-4-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"en-NKJV-24357\" class=\"text Mark-4-33\">Jesus&#8217; Use of Parables<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-4-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear <i>it.<\/i> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24358\" class=\"text Mark-4-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-4-35\">Wind and Wave Obey Jesus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-4-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Let us cross over to the other side.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24360\" class=\"text Mark-4-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And they awoke Him and said to Him, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24363\" class=\"text Mark-4-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, <span class=\"woj\">Peace, <\/span><span class=\"woj\">be still!<\/span>\u00a0And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24364\" class=\"text Mark-4-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup>But He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Why are you so fearful?<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">How<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\"><i>is it<\/i> that you have no faith?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24365\" class=\"text Mark-4-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chapfive\"><\/a>Chapter Five<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Demon-Possessed Man Healed<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-1\"><span class=\"text Mark-5-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">5\u00a0<\/span>Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24367\" class=\"text Mark-5-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24368\" class=\"text Mark-5-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>who had <i>his<\/i> dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24369\" class=\"text Mark-5-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24370\" class=\"text Mark-5-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24371\" class=\"text Mark-5-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24372\" class=\"text Mark-5-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And he cried out with a loud voice and said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24373\" class=\"text Mark-5-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>For He said to him, <span class=\"woj\">Come out of the man, unclean spirit!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24374\" class=\"text Mark-5-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Then He asked him, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153What <i>is<\/i> your name?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-5-9\">And he answered, saying, My name <i>is<\/i> Legion; for we are many. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24375\" class=\"text Mark-5-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24376\" class=\"text Mark-5-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Now a large herd of swine was feeding there near the mountains. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24377\" class=\"text Mark-5-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>So all the demons begged Him, saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Send us to the swine, that we may enter them. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24378\" class=\"text Mark-5-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24379\" class=\"text Mark-5-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>So those who fed the swine fled, and they told <i>it<\/i> in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24380\" class=\"text Mark-5-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one <i>who had been<\/i> demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24381\" class=\"text Mark-5-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>And those who saw it told them how it happened to him <i>who had been<\/i> demon-possessed, and about the swine. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24382\" class=\"text Mark-5-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Then they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24383\" class=\"text Mark-5-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24384\" class=\"text Mark-5-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, <span class=\"woj\">Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24385\" class=\"text Mark-5-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-5-21\">A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-5-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24387\" class=\"text Mark-5-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24388\" class=\"text Mark-5-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>and begged Him earnestly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24389\" class=\"text Mark-5-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>So <i>Jesus<\/i> went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24390\" class=\"text Mark-5-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24391\" class=\"text Mark-5-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24392\" class=\"text Mark-5-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>When she heard about Jesus, she came behind <i>Him<\/i> in the crowd and touched His garment. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24393\" class=\"text Mark-5-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>For she said, If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24394\" class=\"text Mark-5-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in <i>her<\/i> body that she was healed of the <sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24394f\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24394f&quot; title=&quot;See footnote f&quot;&gt;f&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%205&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24394f\">f<\/a>]<\/sup>affliction. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24395\" class=\"text Mark-5-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, <span class=\"woj\">Who touched My clothes?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24396\" class=\"text Mark-5-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>But His disciples said to Him, You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, <span class=\"woj\">Who touched Me?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24397\" class=\"text Mark-5-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24398\" class=\"text Mark-5-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24399\" class=\"text Mark-5-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to her, <span class=\"woj\">Daughter,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">your faith has made you well.<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24400\" class=\"text Mark-5-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>While He was still speaking, <i>some<\/i> came from the ruler of the synagogue&#8217;s <i>house<\/i> who said, Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24401\" class=\"text Mark-5-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, <span class=\"woj\">Do not be afraid; only<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">believe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24402\" class=\"text Mark-5-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24403\" class=\"text Mark-5-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24404\" class=\"text Mark-5-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>When He came in, He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">sleeping.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24405\" class=\"text Mark-5-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup>And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those <i>who were<\/i> with Him, and entered where the child was lying. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24406\" class=\"text Mark-5-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, <span class=\"woj\">Talitha, cumi,<\/span> which is translated, <span class=\"woj\">Little girl, I say to you, arise.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24407\" class=\"text Mark-5-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years <i>of age.<\/i> And they were overcome with great amazement. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24408\" class=\"text Mark-5-43\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup>But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that <i>something<\/i> should be given her to eat.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"footnotes\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chapsix\"><\/a>Chapter Six<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jesus Rejected at Nazareth<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-1\"><span class=\"text Mark-6-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">6\u00a0<\/span>Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24410\" class=\"text Mark-6-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing <i>Him<\/i> were astonished, saying, Where <i>did<\/i> this Man <i>get<\/i> these things? And what wisdom <i>is<\/i> this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24411\" class=\"text Mark-6-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us? So they were offended at Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24412\" class=\"text Mark-6-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus said to them, <span class=\"woj\">A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.\u009d<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24413\" class=\"text Mark-6-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed <i>them.<\/i> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24414\" class=\"text Mark-6-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-6-7\">Sending Out the Twelve<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-6-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And He called the twelve to <i>Himself,<\/i> and began to send them out two <i>by<\/i> two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24416\" class=\"text Mark-6-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff \u201dno bag, no bread, no copper in <i>their<\/i> money belts\u201d <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24417\" class=\"text Mark-6-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24418\" class=\"text Mark-6-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Also He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24419\" class=\"text Mark-6-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24420\" class=\"text Mark-6-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>So they went out and preached that <i>people<\/i> should repent. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24421\" class=\"text Mark-6-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed <i>them.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-6-14\">John the Baptist Beheaded<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-6-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Now King Herod heard <i>of Him,<\/i> for His name had become well known. And he said, John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24423\" class=\"text Mark-6-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Others said, It is Elijah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-6-15\">And others said, It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24424\" class=\"text Mark-6-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>But when Herod heard, he said, This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead! <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24425\" class=\"text Mark-6-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip&#8217;s wife; for he had married her. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24426\" class=\"text Mark-6-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Because John had said to Herod, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It is not lawful for you to have your brother&#8217;s wife.\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24427\" class=\"text Mark-6-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not; <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24428\" class=\"text Mark-6-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>for Herod feared John, knowing that he <i>was<\/i> a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24429\" class=\"text Mark-6-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief <i>men<\/i> of Galilee. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24430\" class=\"text Mark-6-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And when Herodias daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, Ask me whatever you want, and I will give <i>it<\/i> to you. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24431\" class=\"text Mark-6-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>He also swore to her, Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24432\" class=\"text Mark-6-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>So she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-6-24\">And she said, The head of John the Baptist!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24433\" class=\"text Mark-6-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24434\" class=\"text Mark-6-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>And the king was exceedingly sorry; <i>yet,<\/i> because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24435\" class=\"text Mark-6-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24436\" class=\"text Mark-6-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24437\" class=\"text Mark-6-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>When his disciples heard <i>of it,<\/i> they came and took away his corpse and laid it in a tomb.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-6-30\">Feeding the Five Thousand<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-6-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24439\" class=\"text Mark-6-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.<\/span>\u00a0For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24440\" class=\"text Mark-6-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24441\" class=\"text Mark-6-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24442\" class=\"text Mark-6-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24443\" class=\"text Mark-6-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, This is a deserted place, and already the hour <i>is <\/i>late. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24444\" class=\"text Mark-6-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread; for they have nothing to eat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24445\" class=\"text Mark-6-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>But He answered and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153You give them something to eat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-6-37\">And they said to Him, Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them <i>something<\/i> to eat?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24446\" class=\"text Mark-6-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>But He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">How many loaves do you have? And as many as touched Him were made well.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"footnotes\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chapseven\"><\/a>Chapter Seven<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Defilement Comes from Within<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-1\"><span class=\"text Mark-7-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">7\u00a0<\/span>Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24466\" class=\"text Mark-7-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24467\" class=\"text Mark-7-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash <i>their<\/i> hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24468\" class=\"text Mark-7-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup><i>When they come<\/i> from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, <i>like<\/i> the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24469\" class=\"text Mark-7-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24470\" class=\"text Mark-7-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>He answered and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Well did Isaiah prophesy of you <\/span><span class=\"woj\">hypocrites, as it is written:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Mark-7-6\"><span class=\"woj\">This people honors Me with <i>their<\/i> lips,<\/span><\/span><br \/><span class=\"text Mark-7-6\"><span class=\"woj\">But their heart is far from Me.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span id=\"en-NKJV-24471\" class=\"text Mark-7-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And in vain they worship Me,<\/span><\/span><br \/><span class=\"text Mark-7-7\"><span class=\"woj\">Teaching <i>as<\/i> doctrines the commandments of men.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-24472\" class=\"text Mark-7-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men <\/span><span class=\"woj\">the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24473\" class=\"text Mark-7-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>He said to them, <span class=\"woj\"><i>All too<\/i> well<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">you<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24474\" class=\"text Mark-7-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For Moses said,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Honor your father and your mother; and,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24475\" class=\"text Mark-7-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But you say, If a man says to his father or mother,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Whatever profit you might have received from me <i>is <\/i>Corban (that is, a gift <i>to God<\/i>),<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24476\" class=\"text Mark-7-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother,<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24477\" class=\"text Mark-7-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24478\" class=\"text Mark-7-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>When He had called all the multitude to <i>Himself,<\/i> He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Hear Me, everyone, and<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">understand:<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24479\" class=\"text Mark-7-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">defile a man.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24480\" class=\"text Mark-7-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">If<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!\u009d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24481\" class=\"text Mark-7-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24482\" class=\"text Mark-7-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>So He said to the <span class=\"woj\">Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24483\" class=\"text Mark-7-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated,<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\"><i>thus<\/i> purifying all foods?\u009d<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24484\" class=\"text Mark-7-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>And He said, <span class=\"woj\">What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24485\" class=\"text Mark-7-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For from within, out of the heart of men,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">proceed evil thoughts,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">adulteries,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">fornications, murders,<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24486\" class=\"text Mark-7-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">thefts,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">covetousness, wickedness,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">deceit,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">lewdness, an evil eye,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">blasphemy,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">pride, foolishness.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24487\" class=\"text Mark-7-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">All these evil things come from within and defile a man.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-7-24\">A Gentile Shows Her Faith<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-7-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know <i>it,<\/i> but He could not be hidden. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24489\" class=\"text Mark-7-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24490\" class=\"text Mark-7-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24491\" class=\"text Mark-7-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus said to her, <span class=\"woj\">Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children&#8217;s bread and throw <i>it<\/i> to the little dogs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24492\" class=\"text Mark-7-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>And she answered and said to Him, Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children&#8217;s crumbs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24493\" class=\"text Mark-7-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to her, <span class=\"woj\">For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24494\" class=\"text Mark-7-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-7-31\">Jesus Heals a Deaf-Mute<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-7-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24496\" class=\"text Mark-7-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24497\" class=\"text Mark-7-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24498\" class=\"text Mark-7-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, <span class=\"woj\">Ephphatha,<\/span> that is, <span class=\"woj\">Be opened.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24499\" class=\"text Mark-7-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24500\" class=\"text Mark-7-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed <i>it.<\/i> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24501\" class=\"text Mark-7-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153He has done all things well. And He sent them away, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24511\" class=\"text Mark-8-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>immediately got into the boat with His disciples, and came to the region of Dalmanutha.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-8-11\">The Pharisees Seek a Sign<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-8-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24513\" class=\"text Mark-8-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, <span class=\"woj\">Why does this generation seek a sign? It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. <b><sup>45\u00a0<\/sup><\/b>And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. Jason Pamblanco, Leonardtown Baptist Church<\/p>\n<p>01.02.22<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus predicts his death.<\/li>\n<li>The highlight this time is on John.<\/li>\n<li>This is the only time when Jesus talks about his death, that he talks about being &#8220;betrayed&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Isaiah 53:6<\/strong> All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Isaiah 53:12<\/strong> Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.<\/li>\n<li>God had a plan.\u00a0 God turned over Christ for us, to die, for OUR sins.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Acts 2:23<\/strong> Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;<\/li>\n<li>While Jesus was talking about his upcoming death, the disciples were discussing who would have the upper hand.<\/li>\n<li>When Jesus sat down, he took the posture of a &#8220;teacher.&#8221; This is the way the Rabbis taught, sitting down amongst the people being taught.<\/li>\n<li>We need to make sure our church where anyone and everyone feels welcome. We need to get out of our comfort zone and welcome people. Ask people their name. Get to know someone.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus teaches us to &#8220;get over ourselves.&#8221; Do not think about social standing. Ask yourself, &#8220;shouldn&#8217;t I know that person?&#8221; Don&#8217;t avoid them out of pride. Get to know who they are.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus teaches us to be the greatest, we are to be servants of all.\u00a0 He flipped their thinking from what people thought.<\/li>\n<li>Mark 9:38&#8230;the problem from John&#8217;s perspective was &#8220;he wasn&#8217;t following\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>us<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">.&#8221;<\/span>\u00a0 Jesus response was &#8220;don&#8217;t stop him&#8221;&#8230;.<\/li>\n<li>There is no middle ground for Jesus.\u00a0 You are either for him, or against him. There is no middle ground.\u00a0 You are either hot or cold, no lukewarm.<\/li>\n<li>Verse 41&#8230; even the simplest kindness done to Jesus, he will receive his eternal reward.<\/li>\n<li>Two simple questions for application from today&#8217;s message?\n<ul>\n<li>Are your arms open to receive the overlooked?<\/li>\n<li>Are your hands out to serve others in Christ&#8217;s name? No one <i>is<\/i> good but One, <i>that is,<\/i><\/span> <span class=\"woj\">God.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24608\" class=\"text Mark-10-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">You know the commandments:<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal,Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24609\" class=\"text Mark-10-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>And he answered and said to Him, Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24610\" class=\"text Mark-10-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, <span class=\"woj\">One thing you lack: Go your way,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">treasure in heaven; and come,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">take up the cross, and follow Me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24611\" class=\"text Mark-10-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-10-23\">With God All Things Are Possible<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-10-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24613\" class=\"text Mark-10-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Children, how hard it is<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">for those<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24614\" class=\"text Mark-10-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">rich man to enter the kingdom of God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24615\" class=\"text Mark-10-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24616\" class=\"text Mark-10-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus looked at them and said, <span class=\"woj\">With men <i>it is<\/i> impossible, but not<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">with God; for with God all things are possible.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24617\" class=\"text Mark-10-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>Then Peter began to say to Him, See, we have left all and followed You.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24618\" class=\"text Mark-10-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>So Jesus answered and said, <span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">or wife or children or<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">lands, for My sake and the gospel&#8217;s,<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24619\" class=\"text Mark-10-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">persecutions\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand in the age to come, eternal life.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24620\" class=\"text Mark-10-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But many <i>who are<\/i> first will be last, and the last first.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-10-32\">Jesus a Third Time Predicts His Death and Resurrection<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-10-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him: <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24622\" class=\"text Mark-10-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles;<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24623\" class=\"text Mark-10-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">and they will mock Him, and<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-10-35\">Greatness Is Serving<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-10-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24625\" class=\"text Mark-10-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">What do you want Me to do for you?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24626\" class=\"text Mark-10-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>They said to Him, Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24627\" class=\"text Mark-10-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus said to them, <span class=\"woj\">You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">cup that I drink, and be baptized with the<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">baptism that I am baptized with?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24628\" class=\"text Mark-10-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>They said to Him, We are able.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-10-39\">So Jesus said to them, <span class=\"woj\">You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24629\" class=\"text Mark-10-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but <i>it is for those <\/i><\/span><span class=\"woj\">for whom it is prepared.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24630\" class=\"text Mark-10-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>And when the ten heard <i>it,<\/i> they began to be greatly displeased with James and John. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24631\" class=\"text Mark-10-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus called them to <i>Himself<\/i> and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24632\" class=\"text Mark-10-43\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24633\" class=\"text Mark-10-44\"><sup class=\"versenum\">44\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24634\" class=\"text Mark-10-45\"><sup class=\"versenum\">45\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For even<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">to give His life a ransom for many.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-10-46\">Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-10-46\"><sup class=\"versenum\">46\u00a0<\/sup>Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24636\" class=\"text Mark-10-47\"><sup class=\"versenum\">47\u00a0<\/sup>And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24637\" class=\"text Mark-10-48\"><sup class=\"versenum\">48\u00a0<\/sup>Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24638\" class=\"text Mark-10-49\"><sup class=\"versenum\">49\u00a0<\/sup>So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-10-49\">Then they called the blind man, saying to him, Be of good cheer. Mark Dooley, LBC<br \/>3.20.2016<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #006633;\">Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King<\/span><\/p>\n<p>11 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWhy are you doing this? say, The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.<br \/>4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway.As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, What are you doing, untying that colt? 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,<br \/>Hosanna!<br \/>Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!\u009d<br \/>Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!<br \/>Hosanna in the highest heaven!<br \/>11\u00a0Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">1. Jesus is a unique King.<\/span> When we encounter Jesus, we encounter a different kind of King. Jesus comes humble, to serve. Instead of riding into town on a Horse, the animal representing war, he came riding into town on a donkey. Kings are born to reign, but Jesus had come to die.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">2. Jesus is a self-aware King.<\/span> Royal kings &#8220;strut&#8221; and have bravado. But not Jesus, he was meek and lowly. Jesus shies away from publicity, he sought to avoid the lime light. Jesus acted and moved in certain ways, that he knew would enact a response.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">3. Jesus is a compassionate King.<\/span> Jesus wept over Jerusalem. When was the last time you saw a King weep? He opened blind eyes, he healed the sick. What more compassion could he have shown than to die such a horrible death for us? He willingly died in our place so that we do not have to face the wrath of God. He was the suffering servant. In reality he was the spotless lamb of God, but he died for us.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">4. Jesus is a righteous King.<\/span> Jesus tells us what we need to hear, rather than what we want to hear. He warns us of judgment; he warns us of an eternal hell. He does not sugar coat it. See Matt 24 and 25. He tells us that we can not face eternity without him.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chap12\"><\/a>Chapter Twelve<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-2\"><span class=\"text Mark-12-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">12\u00a0<\/span>Then He began to speak to them in parables: <span class=\"woj\">A man planted a vineyard and set a hedge around <i>it,<\/i> dug <i>a place for<\/i> the wine vat and built a tower. And he leased it to<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">vinedressers and went into a far country.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24676\" class=\"text Mark-12-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that he might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24677\" class=\"text Mark-12-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And they took <i>him<\/i> and beat him and sent <i>him<\/i> away empty-handed.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24678\" class=\"text Mark-12-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Again he sent them another servant,<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">and at him they threw stones, wounded <i>him<\/i> in the head, and sent <i>him<\/i> away shamefully treated.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24679\" class=\"text Mark-12-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">beating some and killing some.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24680\" class=\"text Mark-12-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, They will respect my son.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24681\" class=\"text Mark-12-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But those<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">vinedressers said among themselves, This is the heir. He will come and destroy the vinedressers, and give the vineyard to others.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24684\" class=\"text Mark-12-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Have you not even read this Scripture:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Mark-12-10\"><span class=\"woj\">The stone which the builders rejected<\/span><\/span><br \/><span class=\"text Mark-12-10\"><span class=\"woj\">Has become the chief cornerstone.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span id=\"en-NKJV-24685\" class=\"text Mark-12-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">This was the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord&#8217;<\/span>s doing,<\/span><\/span><br \/><span class=\"text Mark-12-11\"><span class=\"woj\">And it is marvelous in our eyes\u009d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-24686\" class=\"text Mark-12-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>And they sought to lay hands on Him, but feared the multitude, for they knew He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went away.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-12-13\">The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>Then they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to catch Him in <i>His<\/i> words. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24688\" class=\"text Mark-12-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>When they had come, they said to Him, Teacher, we know that You are true, and care about no one; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24689\" class=\"text Mark-12-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Shall we pay, or shall we not pay?\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-15\">But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see <i>it. <\/i><\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24690\" class=\"text Mark-12-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>So they brought <i>it.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-16\">And He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Whose image and inscription <i>is<\/i> this?<\/span> They said to Him, Caesar\u00e2<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24691\" class=\"text Mark-12-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus answered and said to them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar&#8217;s, and to<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">God the things that are God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-17\">And they marveled at Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-12-18\">The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Then <i>some<\/i> Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying: <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24693\" class=\"text Mark-12-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19 <\/sup>Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man&#8217;s brother dies, and leaves <i>his<\/i> wife behind, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24694\" class=\"text Mark-12-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife; and dying, he left no offspring. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24695\" class=\"text Mark-12-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>And the second took her, and he died; nor did he leave any offspring. And the third likewise. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24696\" class=\"text Mark-12-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>So the seven had her and left no offspring. Last of all the woman died also. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24697\" class=\"text Mark-12-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore, in the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be? You are therefore greatly<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">mistaken.\u009d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-12-28\">The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, Which is the first commandment of all?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24703\" class=\"text Mark-12-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus answered him, <span class=\"woj\">The<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">first of all the commandments <i>is:<\/i><\/span><span class=\"woj\">Hear, O Israel, the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> our God, the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> is one.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24704\" class=\"text Mark-12-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And you shall <\/span><span class=\"woj\">love the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. <\/span><span class=\"woj\">This <i>is<\/i> the first commandment.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24705\" class=\"text Mark-12-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And the second, like <i>it, is<\/i> this:<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than <\/span><span class=\"woj\">these.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24706\" class=\"text Mark-12-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>So the scribe said to Him, Well <i>said,<\/i> Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24707\" class=\"text Mark-12-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one&#8217;s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24708\" class=\"text Mark-12-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, <span class=\"woj\">You are not far from the kingdom of God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-34\">But after that no one dared question Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-12-35\">Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153How <i>is it<\/i> that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24710\" class=\"text Mark-12-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For David himself said<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">by the Holy Spirit:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Mark-12-36\"><span class=\"woj\">\u00a0The <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> said to my Lord,<\/span><\/span><br \/><span class=\"text Mark-12-36\"><span class=\"woj\">\u00a0Sit at My right hand,<\/span><\/span><br \/><span class=\"text Mark-12-36\"><span class=\"woj\">Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-24711\" class=\"text Mark-12-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Therefore David himself calls Him Lord; how is He <i>then<\/i> his<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Son?\u009d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-37\">And the common people heard Him gladly.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-12-38\">Beware of the Scribes<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to them in His teaching, <span class=\"woj\">Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\"><i>love<\/i> greetings in the marketplaces,<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24713\" class=\"text Mark-12-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">the<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24714\" class=\"text Mark-12-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">who devour widows&#8217; houses, and<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-12-41\">The Widow&#8217;s Two Mites<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-12-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many <i>who were<\/i> rich put in much. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24716\" class=\"text Mark-12-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup>Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a <sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24716p\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24716p&quot; title=&quot;See footnote p&quot;&gt;p&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote p\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%2012&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24716p\">p<\/a>]<\/sup>quadrans. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24717\" class=\"text Mark-12-43\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup>So He called His disciples to <i>Himself<\/i> and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you that<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24718\" class=\"text Mark-12-44\"><sup class=\"versenum\">44\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had,<\/span><span class=\"woj\">her whole livelihood.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chap13\"><\/a>Chapter Thirteen<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jesus Predicts the Destruction of the Temple<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-2\"><span class=\"text Mark-13-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">13\u00a0<\/span>Then as He went out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, Teacher, see what manner of stones and what buildings <i>are here!<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24720\" class=\"text Mark-13-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus answered and said to him, <span class=\"woj\">Do you see these great buildings?<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Not <i>one<\/i> stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-13-3\">The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-13-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24722\" class=\"text Mark-13-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4 <\/sup>Tell us, when will these things be? And what <i>will be<\/i> the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24723\" class=\"text Mark-13-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus, answering them, began to say: <span class=\"woj\">Take heed that no one deceives you.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24724\" class=\"text Mark-13-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For many will come in My name, saying, I am <i>He,<\/i>\u00a0and will deceive many.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24725\" class=\"text Mark-13-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for <i>such things<\/i> must happen, but the end <i>is <\/i>not yet.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24726\" class=\"text Mark-13-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For nation will rise against nation, and<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines<\/span> <sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24726a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24726a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%2013&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24726a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">and troubles.<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">These <i>are<\/i> the beginnings of <\/span><span class=\"woj\">sorrows.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24727\" class=\"text Mark-13-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24728\" class=\"text Mark-13-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24729\" class=\"text Mark-13-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But when they arrest <i>you<\/i> and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, <\/span><span class=\"woj\">or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">but the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24730\" class=\"text Mark-13-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Now<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">brother will betray brother to death, and a father <i>his<\/i> child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24731\" class=\"text Mark-13-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And you will be hated by all for My name&#8217;s sake. But<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">he who <\/span><span class=\"woj\">endures to the end shall be saved.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-13-14\">The Great Tribulation<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-13-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">So when you see the<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">abomination of desolation, <\/span><span class=\"woj\">spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not <\/span>(let the reader understand), <span class=\"woj\">then<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24733\" class=\"text Mark-13-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24734\" class=\"text Mark-13-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24735\" class=\"text Mark-13-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24736\" class=\"text Mark-13-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And pray that your flight may not be in winter.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24737\" class=\"text Mark-13-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For <i>in<\/i> those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24738\" class=\"text Mark-13-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect&#8217;s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24739\" class=\"text Mark-13-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Then if anyone says to you, Look, here <i>is<\/i> the Christ! or, Look, <i>He is<\/i> there! do not believe it.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24740\" class=\"text Mark-13-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">wonders to deceive, if possible, even the <\/span><span class=\"woj\">elect.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24741\" class=\"text Mark-13-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-13-24\">The Coming of the Son of Man<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-13-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24743\" class=\"text Mark-13-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">shaken.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24744\" class=\"text Mark-13-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24745\" class=\"text Mark-13-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And then He will send His angels, and gather together His<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-13-28\">The Parable of the Fig Tree<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-13-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24747\" class=\"text Mark-13-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">So you also, when you see these things happening, know that<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">it is near at the doors!<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24748\" class=\"text Mark-13-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24749\" class=\"text Mark-13-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Heaven and earth will pass away, but<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">My words will by no means pass away.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-13-32\">No One Knows the Day or Hour<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-13-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But of that day and hour<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Father.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24751\" class=\"text Mark-13-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24752\" class=\"text Mark-13-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\"><i>It is<\/i> like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24753\" class=\"text Mark-13-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24754\" class=\"text Mark-13-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24755\" class=\"text Mark-13-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"footnotes\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chap14\"><\/a>Chapter Fourteen<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Plot to Kill Jesus<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-2\"><span class=\"text Mark-14-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">14\u00a0<\/span>After two days it was the Passover and <i>the Feast<\/i> of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take Him by trickery and put <i>Him<\/i> to death. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24757\" class=\"text Mark-14-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>But they said, Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar of the people.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-3\">The Anointing at Bethany<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured <i>it<\/i> on His head. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24759\" class=\"text Mark-14-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, Why was this fragrant oil wasted? <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24760\" class=\"text Mark-14-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor. And they criticized her sharply.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24761\" class=\"text Mark-14-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus said, <span class=\"woj\">Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24762\" class=\"text Mark-14-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good;<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">but Me you do not have always.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24763\" class=\"text Mark-14-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24764\" class=\"text Mark-14-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.\u009d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-10\">Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24766\" class=\"text Mark-14-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>And when they heard <i>it,<\/i> they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-12\">Jesus Celebrates the Passover with His Disciples<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover <i>lamb,<\/i> His disciples said to Him, Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24768\" class=\"text Mark-14-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24769\" class=\"text Mark-14-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, The Teacher says, Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24770\" class=\"text Mark-14-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished <i>and<\/i> prepared; there make ready for us.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24771\" class=\"text Mark-14-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>So His disciples went out, and came into the city, and found it just as He had said to them; and they prepared the Passover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24772\" class=\"text Mark-14-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>In the evening He came with the twelve. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24773\" class=\"text Mark-14-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Now as they sat and ate, Jesus said, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Assuredly, I say to you,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">one of you who eats with Me will betray Me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24774\" class=\"text Mark-14-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to Him one by one, is it I? And another <i>said,<\/i> isit I?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24775\" class=\"text Mark-14-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>He answered and said to them, <span class=\"woj\"><i>It is<\/i> one of the twelve, who dips with Me in the dish.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24776\" class=\"text Mark-14-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had never been born.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-22\">Jesus Institutes the Lord&#8217;s Supper<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke <i>it,<\/i>and gave <i>it<\/i> to them and said, <span class=\"woj\">Take,<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">eat; this is My<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">body.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24778\" class=\"text Mark-14-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave <i>it<\/i> to them, and they all drank from it. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24779\" class=\"text Mark-14-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">This is My blood of the<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">new covenant, which is shed for many.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24780\" class=\"text Mark-14-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24781\" class=\"text Mark-14-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-27\">Jesus Predicts Peter&#8217;s Denial<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus said to them, <span class=\"woj\">All of you will be made to stumble <\/span><span class=\"woj\">because of Me this night, for it is written:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Mark-14-27\"><span class=\"woj\">I will strike the Shepherd,<\/span><\/span><br \/><span class=\"text Mark-14-27\"><span class=\"woj\">And the sheep will be scattered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-24783\" class=\"text Mark-14-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28 <\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24784\" class=\"text Mark-14-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>Peter said to Him, Even if all are made to <sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24784j\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24784j&quot; title=&quot;See footnote j&quot;&gt;j&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote j\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%2014&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24784j\">j<\/a>]<\/sup>stumble, yet I <i>will<\/i> not <i>be.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24785\" class=\"text Mark-14-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus said to him, <span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you that today, <i>even<\/i> this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24786\" class=\"text Mark-14-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>But he spoke more vehemently, If I have to die with You, I will not deny You!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-31\">And they all said likewise.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-32\">The Prayer in the Garden<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, <span class=\"woj\">Sit here while I pray.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24788\" class=\"text Mark-14-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24789\" class=\"text Mark-14-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, <i>even<\/i> to death. Stay here and watch.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24790\" class=\"text Mark-14-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24791\" class=\"text Mark-14-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>And He said, <span class=\"woj\">Abba, Father,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">all things <i>are<\/i> possible for You. Take this cup away from Me;<\/span><span class=\"woj\">nevertheless, not what I will, but what You <i>will.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24792\" class=\"text Mark-14-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, <span class=\"woj\">Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour?<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24793\" class=\"text Mark-14-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">The spirit indeed <i>is<\/i> willing, but the flesh <i>is<\/i> weak.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24794\" class=\"text Mark-14-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>Again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24795\" class=\"text Mark-14-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup>And when He returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24796\" class=\"text Mark-14-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>Then He came the third time and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough!<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24797\" class=\"text Mark-14-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-43\">Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-43\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup>And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24799\" class=\"text Mark-14-44\"><sup class=\"versenum\">44\u00a0<\/sup>Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him and lead <i>Him<\/i> away safely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24800\" class=\"text Mark-14-45\"><sup class=\"versenum\">45\u00a0<\/sup>As soon as he had come, immediately he went up to Him and said to Him, Rabbi, Rabbi! and kissed Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24801\" class=\"text Mark-14-46\"><sup class=\"versenum\">46\u00a0<\/sup>Then they laid their hands on Him and took Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24802\" class=\"text Mark-14-47\"><sup class=\"versenum\">47\u00a0<\/sup>And one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24803\" class=\"text Mark-14-48\"><sup class=\"versenum\">48\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus answered and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me?<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24804\" class=\"text Mark-14-49\"><sup class=\"versenum\">49\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">I was daily with you in the temple<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">teaching, and you did not seize Me. But<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">the Scriptures must be fulfilled.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24805\" class=\"text Mark-14-50\"><sup class=\"versenum\">50\u00a0<\/sup>Then they all forsook Him and fled.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"en-NKJV-24806\" class=\"text Mark-14-51\">A Young Man Flees Naked<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-51\"><sup class=\"versenum\">51\u00a0<\/sup>Now a certain young man followed Him, having a linen cloth thrown around <i>his<\/i> naked <i>body.<\/i> And the young men laid hold of him, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24807\" class=\"text Mark-14-52\"><sup class=\"versenum\">52\u00a0<\/sup>and he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-53\">Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-53\"><sup class=\"versenum\">53\u00a0<\/sup>And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24809\" class=\"text Mark-14-54\"><sup class=\"versenum\">54\u00a0<\/sup>But Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24810\" class=\"text Mark-14-55\"><sup class=\"versenum\">55\u00a0<\/sup>Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24811\" class=\"text Mark-14-56\"><sup class=\"versenum\">56\u00a0<\/sup>For many bore false witness against Him, but their testimonies did not agree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24812\" class=\"text Mark-14-57\"><sup class=\"versenum\">57\u00a0<\/sup>Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24813\" class=\"text Mark-14-58\"><sup class=\"versenum\">58 <\/sup>We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24814\" class=\"text Mark-14-59\"><sup class=\"versenum\">59\u00a0<\/sup>But not even then did their testimony agree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24815\" class=\"text Mark-14-60\"><sup class=\"versenum\">60\u00a0<\/sup>And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, Do You answer nothing? What <i>is it<\/i> these men testify against You? <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24816\" class=\"text Mark-14-61\"><sup class=\"versenum\">61\u00a0<\/sup>But He kept silent and answered nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-61\">Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24817\" class=\"text Mark-14-62\"><sup class=\"versenum\">62\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus said, <span class=\"woj\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I am.<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24818\" class=\"text Mark-14-63\"><sup class=\"versenum\">63\u00a0<\/sup>Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, What further need do we have of witnesses? <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24819\" class=\"text Mark-14-64\"><sup class=\"versenum\">64\u00a0<\/sup>You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-64\">And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24820\" class=\"text Mark-14-65\"><sup class=\"versenum\">65\u00a0<\/sup>Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, Prophesy! And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-14-66\">Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-66\"><sup class=\"versenum\">66\u00a0<\/sup>Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24822\" class=\"text Mark-14-67\"><sup class=\"versenum\">67\u00a0<\/sup>And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, You also were with Jesus of Nazareth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24823\" class=\"text Mark-14-68\"><sup class=\"versenum\">68\u00a0<\/sup>But he denied it, saying, I neither know nor understand what you are saying. And he went out on the porch, and a rooster crowed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24824\" class=\"text Mark-14-69\"><sup class=\"versenum\">69\u00a0<\/sup>And the servant girl saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by, This is <i>one<\/i> of them. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24825\" class=\"text Mark-14-70\"><sup class=\"versenum\">70\u00a0<\/sup>But he denied it again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-14-70\">And a little later those who stood by said to Peter again, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Surely you are <i>one<\/i> of them; for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows <i>it.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24826\" class=\"text Mark-14-71\"><sup class=\"versenum\">71\u00a0<\/sup>Then he began to curse and swear, I do not know this Man of whom you speak!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24827\" class=\"text Mark-14-72\"><sup class=\"versenum\">72\u00a0<\/sup>A second time <i>the<\/i> rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, <span class=\"woj\">Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.<\/span>\u00a0And when he thought about it, he wept.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"footnotes\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chap15\"><\/a>Chapter Fifteen<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jesus Faces Pilate<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-2\"><span class=\"text Mark-15-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">15\u00a0<\/span>Immediately, in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led <i>Him<\/i> away, and delivered <i>Him<\/i> to Pilate. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24829\" class=\"text Mark-15-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Then Pilate asked Him, Are You the King of the Jews?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-2\">He answered and said to him, <span class=\"woj\"><i>It is as<\/i> you say.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24830\" class=\"text Mark-15-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>And the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He answered nothing. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24831\" class=\"text Mark-15-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You! <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24832\" class=\"text Mark-15-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-15-6\">Taking the Place of Barabbas<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Now at the feast he was accustomed to releasing one prisoner to them, whomever they requested. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24834\" class=\"text Mark-15-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And there was one named Barabbas, <i>who was<\/i> chained with his fellow rebels; they had committed murder in the rebellion. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24835\" class=\"text Mark-15-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>Then the multitude, crying aloud, began to ask <i>him to do<\/i> just as he had always done for them. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24836\" class=\"text Mark-15-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>But Pilate answered them, saying, Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews? <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24837\" class=\"text Mark-15-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24838\" class=\"text Mark-15-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas to them. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24839\" class=\"text Mark-15-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>Pilate answered and said to them again, What then do you want me to do <i>with Him<\/i> whom you call the King of the Jews?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24840\" class=\"text Mark-15-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>So they cried out again, Crucify Him!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24841\" class=\"text Mark-15-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Then Pilate said to them, Why, what evil has He done?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-14\">But they cried out all the more, Crucify Him!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24842\" class=\"text Mark-15-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged <i>Him,<\/i> to be crucified.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-15-16\">The Soldiers Mock Jesus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24844\" class=\"text Mark-15-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His <i>head,<\/i><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24845\" class=\"text Mark-15-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>and began to salute Him, Hail, King of the Jews! <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24846\" class=\"text Mark-15-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24847\" class=\"text Mark-15-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-15-21\">The King on a Cross<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Then they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24849\" class=\"text Mark-15-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24850\" class=\"text Mark-15-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>Then they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He did not take <i>it.<\/i> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24851\" class=\"text Mark-15-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them <i>to determine<\/i> what every man should take.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24852\" class=\"text Mark-15-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24853\" class=\"text Mark-15-26\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>And the inscription of His accusation was written above:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"center top-1\"><span class=\"text Mark-15-26\">THE KING OF THE JEWS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-24854\" class=\"text Mark-15-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24855\" class=\"text Mark-15-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, <span class=\"oblique\">And He was numbered with the transgressors.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24856\" class=\"text Mark-15-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, Aha! <i>You<\/i> who destroy the temple and build <i>it<\/i> in three days, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24857\" class=\"text Mark-15-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>save Yourself, and come down from the cross!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24858\" class=\"text Mark-15-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>Likewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153He saved others; Himself He cannot save. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24859\" class=\"text Mark-15-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-32\">Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-15-33\">Jesus Dies on the Cross<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24861\" class=\"text Mark-15-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, <span class=\"woj\">Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?<\/span> which is translated, <span class=\"woj\">My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24862\" class=\"text Mark-15-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Some of those who stood by, when they heard <i>that,<\/i> said, Look, He is calling for Elijah! <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24863\" class=\"text Mark-15-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put <i>it<\/i> on a reed, and offered <i>it<\/i> to Him to drink, saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24864\" class=\"text Mark-15-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24865\" class=\"text Mark-15-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24866\" class=\"text Mark-15-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Truly this Man was the Son of God!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24867\" class=\"text Mark-15-40\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup>There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24868\" class=\"text Mark-15-41\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-15-42\">Jesus Buried in Joseph&#8217;s Tomb<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-15-42\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup>Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24870\" class=\"text Mark-15-43\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup>Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24871\" class=\"text Mark-15-44\"><sup class=\"versenum\">44\u00a0<\/sup>Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24872\" class=\"text Mark-15-45\"><sup class=\"versenum\">45\u00a0<\/sup>So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24873\" class=\"text Mark-15-46\"><sup class=\"versenum\">46\u00a0<\/sup>Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24874\" class=\"text Mark-15-47\"><sup class=\"versenum\">47\u00a0<\/sup>And Mary Magdalene and Mary <i>the mother<\/i> of Joses observed where He was laid.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><a name=\"chap16\"><\/a>Chapter Sixteen<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">return to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He Is Risen<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-2\"><span class=\"text Mark-16-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">16\u00a0<\/span>Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary <i>the mother<\/i> of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24876\" class=\"text Mark-16-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Very early in the morning, on the first <i>day<\/i> of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24877\" class=\"text Mark-16-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>And they said among themselves, Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?\u009d <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24878\" class=\"text Mark-16-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away for it was very large. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24879\" class=\"text Mark-16-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24880\" class=\"text Mark-16-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>But he said to them, Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24881\" class=\"text Mark-16-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>But go, tell His disciples and Peter that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24882\" class=\"text Mark-16-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-16-9\">Mary Magdalene Sees the Risen Lord<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-16-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Now when <i>He<\/i> rose early on the first <i>day<\/i> of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24884\" class=\"text Mark-16-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24885\" class=\"text Mark-16-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>And when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-16-12\">Jesus Appears to Two Disciples<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-16-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>After that, He appeared in another form to two of them as they walked and went into the country. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24887\" class=\"text Mark-16-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And they went and told <i>it<\/i> to the rest, <i>but<\/i> they did not believe them either.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-16-14\">The Great Commission<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-16-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24889\" class=\"text Mark-16-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">Go into all the world<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">and preach the gospel to every creature.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24890\" class=\"text Mark-16-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">He who believes and is baptized will be saved;<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">but he who does not believe will be condemned.<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24891\" class=\"text Mark-16-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And these<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">signs will follow those who<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">believe:<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">In My name they will cast out demons;<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">they will speak with new tongues;<\/span> <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24892\" class=\"text Mark-16-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">they<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them;<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text Mark-16-19\">Christ Ascends to God&#8217;s Right Hand<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-16-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-24894\" class=\"text Mark-16-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with <i>them<\/i> and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.
